Skirt is made of thick felt just like it was in the 50's. This is so you don't have to wear a crinoline under it. My girls love the way it poofs out and the poodle stands out well. It is a long skirt (pass the knees, more like mid-calf) but my girls don't mind. The only down side is that is it not washable. It is marketed as a costume, not an everyday skirt. The skirt is sewn except for the poodle. It looks like it is an iron on applique. I sprayed the skirts with Scotch guard and I probably won't hesitate to wash it in delicate in a wash bag or hand wash it when it comes down to it.
