When I first looked into this costume, I was disappointed to see that the sizes only went to 'medium' and many sites listed this size as a 10-12.
I am 5'7" and around 170 lbs. I am on the busty and hippy side, I wear a size 14 comfortably and can get away with a 12 (on a good day). I ordered the costume with some anxiety about having to subsist off of carrots for three weeks in order to fit into it. Imagine my delight when it arrived and per Rubies (the costume manufacturer)- the 'medium' in this costume runs from dress sizes 10-14, it's on the front of the package! I tried it on and the fit is perfect! It is a little tight in the butt, but not to the point of wedgie paranoia.
The material is thin, not see through, but consider some spanx if you want to batten down your ba-donk a donk. And appropriate undies are a must. I think that it would flatter even more body types if the material was a little thicker.

Surprisingly attractive
I am so pleased with this costume! I am 5'8" and 150 lbs, so I usually am between an 8 and a 10 dress size. I ordered the medium. I was a little worried it wouldn't be long enough, but it fits me great. It's a little snug in the rear, but they were like that in the show. I am a little bit curvy with hips on the bigger size and this is a very flattering fit for that body type. The pants are a little short on me, but with black boots it'll look fine. This is a great custume for the girl who loves TNG and doesn't like to go the slutty route on Halloween.
Pretty decent, but hardcore fans may be disappointed.
I ordered this to be used for a Halloween costume. I was somewhat nervous about the purchase as I'm bad at judging sizes even when I can see the item, so I had no idea what to expect. I'm 5'5" and just shy of 150lbs, and much to my relief, the medium fit pretty well. The sleeves are just an iota baggy but it doesn't look bad. I could see what people meant about it being short in the torso; at my height and build it wasn't that bad, but someone of a taller stature may find sitting slightly uncomfortable.
The shape is pretty flattering; it accents the hips and buttocks well in my case. The torso seemed a little baggy at places but that may be because I'm very flat-chested (38A). An average bust would probably fill it out pretty nicely, and the chest is stitched to cut in flatteringly around the chest. I think the overall design would flatter most body types, it really is tailored to accent.
The construction is adequate and even above-average for a Halloween...
